Magda Stawarska-Beavan, Lubaina Himid and Christine Eyene in conversation

Wednesday 14 October, 6.30pm-7.30pm GMT+1

BIC 2018 artist Magda Stawarska-Beavan will be in online conversation with Lubaina Himid – an artist of the biennale’s 5th edition – and artistic director Christine Eyene in the context of Spaces and Moments currently presented at Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix, London.

The artist’s debut solo exhibition in London consists of an ensemble of installations comprising projections onto paper structures, combining moving image, soundscape, screen-prints and paintings on paper.

In 2018 Stawarska-Beavan took part in the 4th BIC at Villa des Arts (Casablanca) with Bosphorous (2017-2018), a two-screen projection and multichannel audio installation created in collaboration with artist Joshua Horsley.

Her visit to Morocco has led to further art works including Boulevard Anfa (2018) a painting on silkscreen exhibited as part of Invisible Narratives, Newlyn Art Gallery (2019). Her Villa des Arts presentation also led to experimentations with projections on paper and ‘sculptural’ paper overlayers.

While focusing on her London exhibition, the conversation will also be an opportunity to discuss Casablanca as a site of inspiration and to hint at the planned collaboration between Stawarska-Beavan and Himid as part of the biennale’s 5th edition.
