Rencontres d’Arles and Institut français have awarded the second Africa projects curatorial research grant to Untitled (Soukaina Aboulaoula & Yvon Langué, Morocco and Cameroon) for IF A TREE FALLS IN A FOREST, a project that looks into issues involving perception, representation and knowledge in African photography – or how photography aims to document silences and lacunae.

The winners receive a €5,000 research grant. At the end of the research period, if Rencontres d’Arles validates the project’s feasibility, the duo will be awarded a €15,000 budget for a 2021 exhibition in Arles.

Untitled is a young curatorial and artistic direction duo based in Marrakech. Created by Soukaina Aboulaoula and Yvon Langué in 2017, Untitled is interested in the possibilities offered by text and form in shaping cultural practices at large.

Soukaina Aboulaoula is an associate curator of the Biennale Internationale de Casablanca.
