Fabricating the Impossible
The Casablanca International Biennale relocates to Essaouira for an exceptional edition in December 2026
In light of the current international tensions and uncertainties, and considering this year’s special focus on artists from the Middle East, the committee of the Casablanca International Biennale has decided to postpone its 6th edition to run from December 10, 2026 to January 10, 2027.
Entitled Fabricating the Impossible, this edition will exceptionally take place in Essaouira, without calling into question the historical Casablanca identity of the Casablanca International Biennale.
This temporary relocation reflects a dual intention: to strengthen the connection with the Ifitry artists’ residency, where several invited artists developed their projects, while also accompanying the major cultural and architectural momentum currently shaping the city.
The Casablanca International Biennale wishes to highlight the upcoming opening of the City of Arts and Culture, conceived by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
The Casablanca International Biennale will unfold across several emblematic sites in Essaouira, some of them rarely opened to the public, as well as at the Ifitry residency, creating an artistic journey deeply rooted in the city’s living heritage.
Curated by international curator Marisa Caichiolo, this edition will bring together more than 80 Moroccan and international artists around themes of resilience, memory, ecology, and renewal, reaffirming more than ever the Casablanca International Biennale’s role as a platform for creation, reflection, and dialogue.
